And smartkiddies is cheaper I think? Certainly is if you have more than one child. The improvements have been amazing. I had a talk with the maths teacher late last year asking if DS could be considered for one of the top groups, I knew he wouldn't get in the top group with his grades he was getting but as his IQ said he should be excelling at maths I couldn't understand why he was bombing out.
Over the holidays I purchased Mathletics about early Jan and the kids worked on it every day. DS did get in the top math group and the teacher pulled me aside and told me he got into that group on his own merits.
We have been considering changing our boys school recently and I was pleased to see the school we are looking at uses Mathletics!
Although smartkiddies looks great I think I'm going to give mathletics a go because of its use in the schools and that way if we do change schools they are already familiar with the program!
THanks for all the feedback. We were fully prepared to pay this amount just hadn't got around to it because money was tight with christmas coming up and bills etc.
We were so happy. I did think then that there was no way DD who was in kinder that year would want to use it. Sorry Mum I know how much you love it and how well you use it I only saw it from the kinder years.
I probably wouldnt purchase spellodrome as a standalone product, it is like an added on extra to the mathletics program Its just a bonus sort of an after thought not too shabby for what it is but it hasn't been designed to the same quality level as mathletics has been and is lacking in content.
My children use Mathletics through their school subscription. My year two-er's Maths homework is mathletcis and the teacher can login to set work for them, see their results and see what else they are doing on the site.
Mathletics has made doing homework soooo much easier here, they really look forward to it, so as far as I am concerned, that is a pretty good indication of it's value.
If children are only using the live maths component then it's better than nothing but you could find free games online that do the same. Used properly it is fantastic.
I can log in each day and set tasks for my class. They are automatically locked out of the live maths games until they have completed the curriculum tasks.
I can see who has completed the tasks, what results they got, how many times they logged on and for how long etc.
The kids love the live maths games and will happily do the curriculum tasks to get to the games. Parents can also do this if they purchase a home licence.
By pure coincidence I purchased a home licence this evening for DS4 who is in year 9. The curriculum levels go right up to Year 12 and have a regular and advanced section for those ages.
The usual price is a lot if you've got more than one child. This is why you can only change levels a set number of times a year, because they don't want people using it for multiple children.
I'm a big fan of it if the teacher is setting tasks for the child and it's a LOT cheaper if you can get it through the school.
This is a bargain compared to buying it yourself. They have spelladrome as well but as a previous poster said, it does lack a bit compared to Mathletics.
Mind you my boys like it and they like the harder words they get. The school pays for my boys to do mathletics. I buy them the Boost maths books which come with CD's loaded with questions.
My kids prefer Boost, there are fun games on the CDs when they finish set amounts of work. You can get them from Dymocks or Learning Ladder. You need to be a member in order to leave a comment.
